Eugene O'Neil Historic Land Site 1/23/13

Today we drove approximately 53 miles to the East Bay to tour the Eugene O'Neil Historic HomeO'Neill is best known as a prolific playwright, being awarded a Nobel prize in literature.

America's only Nobel Prize winning playwright, Eugene O'Neill, chose to live in Northern California at the height of his writing career. Isolated from the world and within the walls of his home, O'Neill wrote his final and most memorable plays; The Iceman Cometh, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and A Moon for the Misbegotten.

The Tao Home

Eugene's 3rd wife Carlotta had a passion for Asian art and decor, which inspired the name 'Tao House.'

National Park Ranger - Tad Shay did an amazing job on educating us on the life of Eugene O'Neil.

Married in 1929, Eugene O'Neill and
 actress Carlotta Monterey remained partners
until his death.
Eugene and Carlotta spent most evenings reading.  The private couple led a quiet life in the cool, dark rooms of Tao House.

Amazing tour - now off to lunch at China Paradise in Blackhawk.
